Like a modern day version of Wishmaster, director John Leonetti’s (Annabelle) upcoming horror flick Wish Upon grants a young woman the power to make her wildest wishes come true.
Now in theaters July 14, 2017, we now have the film’s official one-sheet that warns: “Be careful what you wish for.” In addition, a second trailer has been released that not only reminds me of The Craft, but also looks a bit like Final Destination. The camera loves The Conjuring‘s Joey King, who is all grown up and having issues with the kids at school. The box helps, like a new take on classic “Twilight Zone” stories.
King, who starred in The Conjuring, plays a 16-year-old misfit who finds a magic box that promises a chance at the life she’s always wanted — only to discover that each wish demands a deadly payment.
Sydney Park (“The Walking Dead”), Shannon Purser (“Stranger Things”), Ryan Phillippe (Shooter, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions) and Elisabeth Rohm (“Joy”, “American Hustle”) also star.
“Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old CLARE SHANNON (Joey King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father JONATHAN (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path.
