‘The Conjuring 3’ Will Be a Very Different Film

What will the Warrens get into next?

We’ve reached a point where The Conjuring Universe is officially a full-blown thing, with spinoffs Annabelle: Creation headed our way this summer and The Nun coming next year. It hasn’t yet been officially announced but it would seem that The Conjuring 3 is also in our near future, especially considering how well The Conjuring 2 did at the box office last year.

But what should we expect from a potential/likely third installment in the Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson-starring franchise? Speaking with Cinema Blend, producer Peter Safran just teased that The Conjuring 3 would have to be a very different film than its two predecessors.

There are some [cases] that maybe aren’t as well known, but [the Warrens] spent a fair bit of time researching and were part of [them]. Clearly we can’t do another haunted house movie, right? We can’t do another supernatural possession in a house, with a family in peril. Right? So, it’s got to be something different than that, I think.

Last we heard from James Wan, who may or may not direct The Conjuring 3, it would be set in the 1980s. But again, nothing is confirmed at this time.
